A strapless bra is held up entirely by its band, so the band must be firmer than on a strapped bra. Wacoal Singapore stocks 12 strapless styles in bands 70 to 90 and cups A to D, including non-wired and cami shapes and a silicone bra with clear adjustable straps. If a strapless bra slides down, the band is too loose — not the cup too small.
The fix is a sister size: go down one band and up one cup, which keeps the same cup volume on a firmer band. There is a full explanation on the bra size chart.
Fit, sizing and common questions
How should a strapless bra fit?
- Firmer band than usual. It carries all the support. Fasten on the tightest comfortable hook rather than the loosest.
- Level all the way round. A band that rises at the back will slide, because the weight pulls it forward and down.
- Cup filled, not gaping. An oversized cup collapses and drags the band down with it. This is the most common cause of a strapless bra failing.
- Test it standing and sitting. Raise your arms. If it moves more than a centimetre, size down the band.
Which style for which neckline?
- Strapless or bandeau top — a wired strapless for lift, or a cami bra for a softer line.
- Halter or one-shoulder — a convertible with straps repositioned, or the silicone bra with clear straps.
- Backless — the silicone bra, which adheres to the skin and can be reused.
- Off-shoulder with sleeves — a non-wired strapless is usually more comfortable, as the garment itself gives some hold.
Frequently asked questions
Do strapless bras actually stay up?
Yes, if the band is right. A strapless bra is held up entirely by the band, so it needs to be firmer than a strapped bra. If yours slides down, the band is too loose, not the cup too small. Go down a band size and up a cup to keep the same volume.
What size strapless bra should I buy?
Start from your measured size, then consider going down one band size and up one cup. Wacoal's strapless range runs bands 70 to 90 in cups A to D.
How do I stop a strapless bra rolling down?
Fasten it on the tightest hook that is still comfortable, make sure the band sits level all the way round, and check that the cup is not too big - an oversized cup collapses and drags the band with it. Silicone-lined bands grip better on bare skin.
What can I wear under a halter or one-shoulder top?
A convertible bra with the straps removed or repositioned. Wacoal also stocks a silicone bra with clear adjustable straps for necklines where a band would show.
Can I get a strapless bra in a larger cup?
This collection runs to a D cup. For larger cups, a convertible full-cup bra worn with the straps removed usually gives more security than a dedicated strapless.
How long can I wear a strapless bra?
Comfortably for an evening. A strapless band has to be firm to do the job of the straps, so it is not the choice for a long working day - an everyday bra will always be more comfortable.
